Summing it Up...

Now, that I'm way on the wrong side of sixty, I feel that being true to self is important. "I yam, what I yam." Kindness and smiles are to be given away. Women are strong. Men are more vulnerable than we believe. Husbands may come and go...but one thing I know for sure is that I will NEVAH live without a corgi or coffee in my life if I can prevent it. Come piles of dog fur or hot water!

Outside Tour...Summer is here!

Early rains and even earlier bouts of extreme heat has blessed local gardens with lush roses, and day lilies blooming several weeks early in NE Indiana.

We have eight long-stemmed roses blooming out our back door. "That's okay Jim, don't bring any home, just pick one as you walk in, the next time you're in the doghouse."

Jake is ten but still a pup in his mind....just throw him a ball and he'll fetch and retrieve, endlessly!

Carrots and yellow squash are planted in an old enamel pan. The green beans have done nothing in the old wash tub. I've done two plantings, and only one seed has sprouted! Can't imagine why!

An update on how the bale gardening is going...plants have tripled in size, and are fed with manure. The zukes are blooming, and so are the roma tomatoes.

Today, the orange corn lilies have opened for the first time.
The corgi kids and I saw a blue heron and a chubby groundhog sunning itself on our country road tour. None of the sheep were out, and ponies were all in the barn, staying in the shade. New batteries are in the camera so am hoping to catch the lamb twins soon to post a pic of them.

Summer and all its busyness is right around the corner. Time seems to go on fast forward. The summer reading program at the library opened this week, and folks flocked the desk to sign up for it. The birds seem to empty the feeders daily.
Roofers are next door, hammering away. Addie won't come outside with them near. Making it frustrating at potty time!
What do you like best of this season? I like having daylight until 9 p.m., and seeing things bloom. School's out for the summer, and it's totally a frame of mind for us all, not just something that happens for the kids.

Your house is so cute!

My favorite thing about this time of year is hanging out in our screened in porch and going for walks at night when it is cool. So relaxing!

My favorite thing about this time of year is waking up at 5 o'clock and drinking a cup of coffee while walking around my yard, how beautiful everything looks in the first rays of day and the cool morning air smells divine.
Your yard is looking good.

I'm impressed by how well the plants in the straw bales are doing! I had never heard of growing things that way before.
Nice picutres.

I'm impressed with the plants in the hay too - I had never heard of it, but it does make sense.

My neighbor is getting a new roof and it is driving me nuts too!

Now I don't get up at 5am to walk around my yard.

But what I do like to do is swim. Have a glass of wine. Relax, breathe - now that is what I'd like to do - what I do - is run around!

What a lovely cottage you have. I can't believe a few months ago it was all covered with snow. Now it is so lush and beautiful with so many blooms! The midwest is America's garden spot.

I like the sun staying up so late, too. The best part of the day for me!

Love your pictures. Indiana looks so inviting. I love the long days, the warm air, the chance to be outside well into the evenings and as a big part of that I love getting out of work while it is still light.

Cozy looking house you have and your gardening work is paying off; it all looks great! I love the warm weather and being up early in the morning with my coffee and listening to the birds. We have baby wrens that chatter the day away and are interesting to watch. Have a good day!

Your house and yard are beautiful! I just fight the never-ending battle of weeds and mowing grass. One flower bed to go and trim the outside of the picturesque picket fence(read falling apart). Then we start all over again. Our containers are doing well; potatoes are sprouting up--whooo-hooo! Just filled the last one. Ran out of room for carrots! Cannot have horses and not raise carrots!!

Y'all come back now...
