Summing it Up...

Now, that I'm way on the wrong side of sixty, I feel that being true to self is important. "I yam, what I yam." Kindness and smiles are to be given away. Women are strong. Men are more vulnerable than we believe. Husbands may come and go...but one thing I know for sure is that I will NEVAH live without a corgi or coffee in my life if I can prevent it. Come piles of dog fur or hot water!

Reading for the ages...

Middle age isn't for sissies. If you're a sissy girl, and most of us out there, are not, you need to buckle up for a bumpy ride. Many of us are doing some soul searching while we are in our men-o-pause. It's a time to re-think, re-value, and sometimes re-construct our lives. We have time now, as our nests empty, to think a thought all the way through, without any type of interruption! Many of us think it's long overdue, and are enjoying our journey back to self.

I've always had a pile of books next to the bed to get me through the night, or at least sleepy. This is how it was during my period of living single following a divorce at age 30. This is how it is during my twelve year old marriage. It's therapeutic, and a quiet time of bliss, with the corgis next to me in bed. Besides, that...I just adore new novels over TV any ol' time.

Here is a listing of authors and titles, which concern "our" population. If you're a boomer, you're in or have gone through menopause. You've gone through the highs and lows of emotions; of your children leaving the nest; of perhaps a changing marriage, leaving you with time (emotional or physical type of time) on your hands. Anyway...your life has changed. These authors have written about the middle-aged woman. That's us tootsies, so get your pencil out, and make a note if you'd like to.

Elizabeth Berg~~Never Change
Barbara Taylor Bradford~~Her Own Rules
Lois Battle~~The Florabama Ladie's Auxiliary Sewing Circle
Elizabeth Buchan~~Revenge of the Middle Aged Woman
Mavis Cheek~~The Sex Life of my Aunt
Sandra Dallas~~Buster Midnight's Cafe
Jennie Fields~~The Middle Ages
Doris May Lessing~~The Summer Before the Dark
Tarna Janowitz~~A Certain Age

This list could go on and on. There are so many fantastic authors out there. Make friends with your librarians! They're great gals who read too, and... who love a bag of candy occasionally.

I'm going to check out those books...well, not check them out, exactly...I have a running feud with our library...but will get 'em from the used bookstore...thanks dearie for that list! I did the whole "menopause" thing at age 31 when various of my "insides" were rudely snatched out of me...LOL...

You are so right about how middle-age can be a time when there finally IS time, time to think...to reflect...to load the bazooka...no no...to get in the car and just FLOOR IT...wait, still not thinking sweetly..."If you have nothing sweet to comment, then comment nothing at all" -- isn't that a saying? So I'll end this comment -- LOL...have a great night! With your stack of books! You and me both!

My favorite author is Debbie Macomber...I have never read a book of hers that I didn't like. I just finished the first book in the Dakota trilogy, called Dakota Born...and another series is 16 Lighthouse Rd. each book title is a street address, then 204 Rosewood Lane, etc...and my very favorite is her series, A Shop on Blossom St....that is the first book....

Well, I sent your pack out yesterday, so I hope you like it....catch ya later, judy

thanks for the suggestions; I'm very familiar with Elizabeth Berg, she's one of my favorite authors; my goal this year is to read more books and less time on the computer (its not working too well, but I'm trying, LOL)

Mornin doggie Mamma...aka...Sista...I am going to have to check out some of these titles,I'm with the ol' dame about the used bookstore...reading is often a challenge here...My dear Mr. Wonderful...brings me the newspaper...I open it,his conversations begin...questions about the day...what did you do?, go anywhere, what are you doing tomarrow,?????????????????????
SO!!!!! I fold the paper...set it down(perhaps with a disgruntled look on my face) ANYTHING GOOD IN THE NEWS? UGH....shoot me now...... Perhaps this evening I shall tell him....straight up...that if I could put Men-on-pause on an easy button...click for him to pause and SHUT up I COULD read the newspaper!
Could you imagine the scene over here is I was trying to read an entire book? Hmmmmmm....gives me a thought...perhaps I shall purchase a BIG,HEAVY,HARDCOVER....THUNK!
Oh my...I am a flailin fool here....Perhaps I am under the influence of the Ol' Dame and her homebrew....
Corgi Momma...get the door......

I like your new Blog changes. It's refreshing and up to date. Thanks for changing my 'thing' too.

Your honesty is sooooooo refreshing and open. I love your readers responses too. Real women.

Middle age is certainly not for sisses - although it is something we have to go through. I guess we can go thru it positively or negatively.

Great Blog.

Just got a $20 gift card for Borders - I'll have to check some of those out. Thanks.
