Summing it Up...

Now, that I'm way on the wrong side of sixty, I feel that being true to self is important. "I yam, what I yam." Kindness and smiles are to be given away. Women are strong. Men are more vulnerable than we believe. Husbands may come and go...but one thing I know for sure is that I will NEVAH live without a corgi or coffee in my life if I can prevent it. Come piles of dog fur or hot water!

Alone, without Supervision...

Bet you're thinking uh-huh...she's being naughty! Well, sort of I guess. Let's set the scene. Winter...doldrums...long, dark nights...Jim out on the road...two weeks alone without any one telling me I can't do something. Perfect setup for trouble, right?

Well...I don't know what YOU'D be up to, but I've been sorting closets, drawers, tossing papers, moving entire rooms of furniture. My sis-in-law and I are infamous for moving furniture when we have emotional upsets. Cleaning is cathartic when your innards aren't happy. There's just too much winter to cope with!

Jim's "big man's" recliner wasn't too bad to push around, but the corgi/mama chair and a half was awful, weighing twice as much.
Several herniated discs unpleasantly wake me up during the night when these shifting urges strike. The ol' gal still feels like superwoman in her head...forgetting (or denying) that the body isn't what it used to be. I always pay for it, but it's SO rewarding to see the results of one's efforts.

Jim'll be mad. He always is, but phhhttt, when the urge strikes to get something done, it's very hard to wait around for two weeks for a tired, grumpy man to get home, who will just crab about moving furniture. So...why not just get 'er done?

Being alone has never bothered me. Luckily, since Jim has been gone most of our thirteen year marriage. Luckily, since I was single for fifteen years...while working, raising two kids, going to school after divorcing in '82. I even liked it as a kid. Boredom has never been a problem for me. Is it something that any of you have trouble dealing with?

Is it a woman thing... this need to change/clean/clear...or am I just plain weird? Surely, there are a lot of "us" out there.......right? Peck, peck....hello? Anyone going to jump on this rebellious wagon of hormones?

You know everyone in awhile - I have the need to clean. Actually it is more then a need - it is some feeling so strong it drives me crazy until I get it done.

Usually it is called spring cleaning - did we women invite it?

I am with you.

I wish I had more clear/clean. I'm a pretty good clearer. Though there are papers on the dining room table I need to sort and I'd much rather visit with my blog friends. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Hey Corgidogmama!

I do get into my cleaning spells but I don't move furniture. My back won't let me do that at all. Then the way we have our furniture is pretty much the only way it can fit in the rooms! What I do like to do is decorate for the seasons. Right now I have my Valentine look going on. Next I'll get it ready for Easter.

I do need to do a lot of cleaning and organizing though! A woman's work is never done!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Angela

I love to move furniture around and clean, clean, clean..it's a woman thing. DH used to tell his friends, he couldn't afford to be a drinker and sneak in late at night...cause he never know where the bed was going to be, and he'd hate to jump in bed in the dark and the bed be moved..lol...
He fusses at me for moving stuff now, but phffff, I'll be moving and cleaning till the day I keel over and die.

Hey there, Valentine! Hubbs and I both love to rearrange furniture, but in our little house, there is only one way our furniture fits, unfortunately, so it has to stay put, for the most part. We can slide the dining room table at a slight angle, just to refresh the look, but the living room furniture - it has to stay where it is. Same for our bedroom, and the spare room upstairs! That is pure hell when you're in the midst of winter doldrums and would like a little change of scenery.

This is so stinkin' funny :)
Now and then I get itching to rearrange, but wind up "chickening" out -- no imagination.
Suppose that's why the folks at HGTV won't be knocking on my door anytime soon?!

I cant say I get the itch to clean..more like painfully organize..until the label maker starts to smoke..and the stacks of bins get moved from place to place and I start to pull my hair out with frustration. You move furniture..me well..I have issues with the label maker.
Really though I have always enjoyed the space of being alone. My thoughts have a chance to blissfully linger without interruption.Big Hugs,Cat

Ok...So the key word to this whole cleaning thing is ALONE. I feel I am never alone...I have a happy little one year old ALWAYS ( or so it feels) smiling and saying Gee-Gee...TOYS! I used to clean with the best of them...before...before A live in Grandbabe that is! Although I did move the sofa the other dayBUT just enough to keep her from sneaking behind it! Can't clean cupboards or drawers...safety locks you know! Hey wait come to think of it I did move the Fisher Price stove the other day ( 100 times too...in the toybox...out of the toybox) Scrubbed the kitchen floor 3 times in one day...it is AMAZING that a 15 month old can open a juice box!
Jalina did go to a play day the other day... so I was alone...YEP picked up all the dollys on the sofa...organzied them
(?)... in the toy box just to have a spot to lay down!
Hmmmmm...You girls should try laying down when you are alone...spot lots of things..THERE...under the table is that missing puzzle piece...yep...the lump in the sofa cushion...THERE is the Dora book! SPRING is coming? Spring cleaning you all say...lol...well here at my house we are talking about Easter ...and I've had to leave the dust bunnies to show Jalina about Bunnies! Oh....life is good!
And talking about animals...anybody know how to get animal crackers out of a DVD?

I always sort and toss when I'm alone but I still save too much junk!

Sounds like you and I do a lot of the same things when the doldrums hit. Don't you love it?

I'm with you! The best time to get things done is when they're gone! I've even painted an entire downstairs with the help of friends...I got tired of waiting. If I would let Chuck know in advance that I was going to take on a big project, he'd say "Wait for me..."

Chuck retired last month. It's not going to be as easy to get things done quickly!!!

No.. you are right, it is a woman thening. I love having time to sort and clean, when my A.D.D. doesnt lead me to another project, which means many unfinished projects..and me forgetting where I started!

Mike USED to be gone all the time when he was a trucker for the first 32 years of our marriage, but now he is home almost every night. I did tend to get sick every once in a while back then and get the urge to clean for a short period of time, but have learned to fight that urge and am now a confirmed hoarder.

Actually, I actually felt well enough to vacuum some today. I am proud of me! Problem was, I filled the vacuum bag full and because of my breathing thing... I'm not allowed to empty it, and my "cleaning urge" was over by the time Robert got home from work to empty it. Linda

PS. Besides, I had more doctoring to do... yeah... another fight... :(

Oh girl I'm tired just listening to all you did...I am alone all the time, I should have the cleanest house around...now it's clean, don't get me wrong, but I need the organising urge to hit... it hit me after Christmas, and I tossed a lot of stuff, but still need the urge to continue...this weather is really getting to me... I'm not ready to pull weeds, but I hate this ice...going to run today, before this next big one its...catch ya later....judy

Y'all come back now...
